You will have the opportunity to look around the state-of-the art surgical centre, which will have a dedicated operating theatre for cataracts, as well as an ophthalmic injection suite for intraocular and AMD injections. The surgical centre will be a regional hub for outstanding cataract care for patients across Cheshire and Merseyside.
The CPD session is entitled Postoperative Cataract Management: Ensuring Optimal Outcomes for Patients. This session is designed to enhance your confidence in managing postoperative cataract patients, improving patient safety and visual outcomes.
By the end of the CPD session, you will be able to:
Recognise common postoperative complications following cataract surgery, including cystoid macular oedema, posterior capsule opacification, and raised intraocular pressure.
Differentiate between normal postoperative recovery and signs of potential complications that require urgent intervention.
Understand the role of optometrists in postoperative care, including appropriate follow-up intervals and patient education.
Evaluate when to refer patients back to ophthalmology for further management.
Gain familiarity with the impact of different intraocular lens choices on postoperative visual outcomes.
The training will be delivered by an ophthalmology consultant with experience in cataract surgery and postoperative care.
